When Visioning Meets Resources: VoxSomnia's Growth Story at mHUB

When starting VoxSomnia, we knew from early on that we would need our own space. As mechanical engineers by trade (and at heart!), it was only natural that we would gravitate towards hardware projects to complement our test software solutions. In our first year of business, we primarily focused on software development and small-scale controls hardware that we could build out of our homes. During a networking event at MxD in 2023, we learned about growth opportunities through mHUB – a hard-tech incubator facility in Chicago. We attended an event there on invitation from World Business Chicago and North Branch Works and had a chance to tour the facility and learn about the resources that would be available to us if we became members. It was immediately obvious that this would be the next stage of growth for VoxSomnia.

In September 2024, we moved into our first space at mHUB – known fondly among the team as the Vox Garage. The garages are located in mHUB’s assembly and tool room area on the first floor. With our own space, and access to the full shop floor area, we were able to take on larger projects including designing and wiring a 30x42” control panel box. In addition, access to CNC machines allowed us to accept a mechanical design and fabrication project that we would have otherwise had to decline.

Since becoming members and moving into mHUB, we’ve been empowered to take on

• Electrical panel building with access to the electronics lab and machine shop
• Design projects with access to CAD software licenses
• Prototype fabrication with access to CNC machines and 3D printers
• Business and leadership activities with access to large conference rooms to do strategic planning as a group, as well as formal training courses led by industry leaders

Being a part of the community at mHUB has given us the ability to confidently quote challenging projects knowing that our execution will be the level of quality and professionalism our customers expect.

Every quarter, mHUB celebrates its members by adding company logos to the member wall in the main gathering area on the first floor. We are proud to say that we have officially installed our plaque on the member wall, alongside nine other companies all getting their start at mHUB. In addition, we have moved from the garage and settled into a quieter office upstairs where we can more easily take calls with customers, while maintaining all the benefits of being close to the shop. We are proud to get to be a part of a community of fast-paced, hard-tech entrepreneurs and are incredibly grateful to have such a powerful incubator facility right at home in Chicago.
